I did expect Ienagi to be a one hit wonder, not sure what they're going to do with him sticking around but it adds to the dynamic a bit.

Ogata joining their group I felt was a more interesting turn and made them that much more dangerous, a sniper makes them a much scarier force in a way that another martial arts specialist wouldn't have been able to.
he'll be useful later, just wanted to see what you thought of his crimes

indeed, but do you think he'll last though? what are your thoughts on how his character got more spotlight in the little town war arc?

Ogata joining the group was one of the best decisions for this series.

Kenkichi... never has eating mochi been so touching.

The Lieutenant keeps stepping up, got to love this guy.

Not really part of the story, but this image is amazing.

Figured we'd get another eating scene soon, it had been quite some time since the last supper.

Ogata is interesting since he was one that was easy for me to overlook as a threat. He was basically the first threat Sugimoto encountered and was already brought down. Focusing more on his sniping and lethality at a distance is a good way to bring him back and gives him a lot of worth among the crew.

yeah, I was super surprised upon a reread that he was the first 7th division guy Sugimoto ran across and beat the shit out of

Only way that image could be better is if the umbrella read “Boner”

    Same.

I still have trouble remembering some names in this manga.

This earless goofball is actually doing a real good job considering who he's up against.

At least he was before he got distracted like an idiot and lost his leg.

A perfect end to the flashback, this is some Duval twist right here. Impressed with just ho cunning he is with his escapes as well.

I haven't commented on it, but I really love the pairing up with this faction, it's created a lot of new interesting dynamics. This group in particular has great chemistry together.

Damn, that was one of the more hype kills in this series. Which is saying something coming from Golden Kamuy.

    Following action hasn't disappointed either

Ushiyama just lifted a bear and threw it away to FREEDOM!!!

I wasn't ready for this... I'll have to stop here because I can't take much more.

so, more thoughts on earless wonder? I think he's like Ogata but comedy rather than threat

and where does Ushiyama rank on your faves list?

Yeah that Bear fight with Ushiyama is so damn awesome

The con-artist bit the dust but he put on a darn good performance before he went out, slipped up by the minor details.

Oh man, it's too touching... this bonding moment inside of a deer. Like that we get more on Sugimoto's struggles like that, the bitter pill of waging that sort of war.

    NSFW:

    That is a magnificent tattoo.

This man is cold as ice, killed off his entire family.

That chapter title is a bit wordy, probably could have found a better way to summarize that.

Welp, he had a good run...

Top left is another panel which would look strange out of context.

And here's a panel that looks just as strange within context...

Kind of surprised he turned into some comedic goofball out of nowhere since his character seemed pretty serious up until he got his ear cut off.

Ushiyama would be top 5 I'd say. Lieutenant Tsurumi, Sugimoto, and Tetsuzou Nihei might make the top 3 right now. Ogata is growing on me as well.

I knew GP would like the Legend of Ushiyama scene.

And the deer scene was actually one of the best moments of the series, reminding us that these characters aren't "right."

what do you think of Ogata's little comment to the worthless son about killing parents as a sort of growing up thing now?

it's kinda jarring yeah, but I never really thought of him much as a serious character since Sugimoto diminished any threat him and his bro might've had real soon.

It was a nice bit of foreshadowing to his past, but I don't think much of the quote itself.

If only I had started this series like two weeks later, then I could've joined the GK Reading Log train too

Well, I never said who that 5th slot in my top 5 was.

I don't trust Inkarmat, but I feel she needs to to stick around since she's the only woman in the group, kind of helps relieve the whole sumo-wrestling stuff that was going on earlier.

The plot thickens, still throwing wrenches into things.

I hear blind bandit and immediately think of Toph.

Anyways, they've gotten to the prison grounds, formulated a plan and just got busted instantly. I expected them to hit a hitch, but not instantly like that.

Things are getting real good right now, excited to see where this all leads.

Awesome cover page, my favorite so far.

It's easy to forget when treated more comedically that this guy is an elite of the 7th unit. He's looking a lot more formidable now then he did when Sugimoto was strapped to that chair.

The warden is pretty fierce, but I think he chose the wrong character to try this on.

This guys becoming the Black Knight, wonder how much will be left of him by the time things are all over.

They're just getting a lot of love with cool cover pages. Chapter title is The Last Samurai so Tom Cruise should be appearing shortly.

    Oh shit...

    Oh shit!

    OH SHIT!!!
