I may have to double check that, but I really think Magnus has won ALL the blitz/rapid tie-breaks he's ever played. Which is quite astonishing.

Another event is taking place meanwhile, with Aronian, MVL and Naka as the top seeds and after 6 rounds Naka is cruising with 5 wins and one draw :

Carlsen wins a piece, but arrives in a completely drawn endgame (R+B vs R without pawns), tries to win it with 1' versus 10' for his opponent, rejects countless draw offers from Naka (rook exchanges proposal for example), and finally flags and thus loses the game

Caruana won the Grenke tournament, a full point ahead of Carlsen

Yeah, the challenger finishing first with the champion second, that's a good tournament for Caruana's confidence

Maybe that same confidence was what boosted him during this tournament

    US Chess Championship 2018

Previous winner was Wesley So. Field includes So, Nakamura, and Caruana. Caruana has stated he was very interested in winning back the title and with the nerves he showed in the past two events, he's got something going for him. Right now Caruana is 3rd while Wesley So is leading.

Caruana threw a game by pushing too hard, he had a very good start before that

Naka with only draws thus far, a bit concerning and also weird given his playstyle.

Meanwhile there's also the Shamkir tournament (or Gashimov memorial) with 10 elite players including Carlsen, Mamedyarov, Ding Liren, Karjakin, Topalov, Giri ...

Topalov is leading with +2 for now with Carlsen trailing half a point below.

    Carlsen won Shamkir 2008

In the US Championship, Shankland is leading Caruana by half a point. 2 more games left. Will Caruana win his last game to win a major tournament for the 3rd time in a row?

if it wasn't for that very unfortunate loss, fabi would have won.

He would have tied for first with Sam, which would have meant a playoff between the two. But Sam deserved this and fair and squared won the tourney with a remarkable performance. I'm happy for the guy, who seems to have worked hard for it.
