hegel's aesthetics, lectures on fine art (volume 1)
    translated by t. m. knox

a bit put off by the emphasis on reason, as is popular with 19th and 18th century philosophers when they talk about art at length, alongside the disorder that comes with the "written as spoken" format but its so far been a really stimulating read.

    The Scar by China Mieville.

Pretty cool book. It's set in a pirate city called Armada, and it's made entirely out of warships stolen from other pirates and sailors. Armada sails aimlessly around the sea, and the goal of the leaders is to capture this big ass fish, chain it to the city and use it to control where they sail.
