With Dawn? Probably pretty comfortably. Dayne with Dawn is the greatest fighter in the history of the 7 kingdoms.

Dayne should without a doubt be the more skilled of the two, but Gregors massive physique, strength and armor makes this a tough fight. Dayne wont be gracefully ducking and dodging his slashe like the red viper, as he'll likely be in full plate armour and is probably more inclined to meeting blows head on and using his unrivalled skill and technique to outfence his opponents. That wont work against a giant like the mountain, he wont be able to go into binds or employ disarming strikes due to the sheer reach and strength difference between them, and if he gets too close gregor wont think anything of getting a hold of him and crushing/grappling. That being said, dayne is a legendary swordsman, an seeing how dawn is superior to regular weaponry due to its special properties, if theres any knight that can down this behemoth it will be him. He'll have to try and keep his distance and go for quick thrusts or slashes when he gets openings. Dawn can probably penetrate the armour gregor is wearing so a few well timed hits to the weak or bare points on gregors body will take their toll on the giant, but its questionable whether he can bring him down in the end before hes overpowered.

Dayne should slaughter him. We saw that with enough skill and speed you can overwhelm the Mountain. Dayne was able to beat 4 men at the same time quite handily with one of them being Ned stark. Don't see how the Mountain could overwhelm him.

Daynes fighting style and choice of weaponry/armor are very different from what oberyn utilized against gregor in their fight. Dayne would most likely be wearing full plate armour in combat situations like every other westerosi knight. By comparison, oberyn had next to no armour covering his limbs or torso, which would have enabled him to move around unrestricted. (Not that we even know whether dayne has the flexibility to perform the sort of moves oberyn did anyway). Additonally, its important to note that the weapon oberyn used was far superior to any type of arming sword (which dawn is) in terms of leverage, reach and ability to disengage (deliver thrusts in quick succession from different angles). Gregor has both a longer blade and more strength than dayne, so he wont be able to rely on what is presumably his usual strategy here. Oberyn just happened to be speedy and mobile enough to keep his distance from the mountain while using feints and evasive techniques to draw him in and gradually tire him out. The fight certainly wouldn't have gone the way it did were it not for those two factors.

As for the Tower of Joy fight, we know nothing about what actually happened, except for the fact that dayne had ned in a position where he could have killed him, and would have had it not been for Howland Reed. Jaimes statement about dayne being strong enough to down loras, osmund, balon, boros and meryn simultaneously probably wasn't literal, and in any case, gregor is far more formidable overall then any one of those 5.

I agree. Yet just because Dayne won't be able to move just like Oberyn shouldn't stop him from beating Clegane. His swordsmanship is still on another lvl + he should have more strength than Oberyn to at least be able to block his swings which Oberyn had a hard time dealing with and mainly had to dodge. The Mountain will receive several wounds without even being able to touch Dayne imo which will slowly tear him down.

Seeing how gregor is pretty much unrivalled in terms of physical strength, even if dayne is able to withstand the force of his strikes, hes going to be getting staggered and knocked around, so its gonna be hard for him to leverage his superior dexterity or bladework. Due to the reach and size disparity, its going to be a quite a task for dayne to land critical blows without getting hit in return, and he certainly wont be able to elegantly evade gregors strikes for an extended period of time like oberyn could without tiring, so the odds are definitely against him. If he does win, it won be without a lot of exertion on his part

Dayne with Dawn mid diff, with enough speed and agility the Mountain is easily wrecked.

Sure the Mountain is physically superior but that's it. I won't say it will be a cakewalk for Dayne. He still has to be very careful but if the Mountain was actually close to him as an overall fighter someone would have mentioned that or hyped him up. All he is known for is being a huge sadistical brute.

Dayne won't get hit so easily by someone like him whose fighting style is rather sluggish and easy to predict for a master on that lvl who was able to handle 4 people at the same time.

Lets see you refute any of the points I made. I never said the mountain is a better fighter then Arthur dayne, but we're talking about a work of fiction involving characters with real human physical capabilities, not some shonen manga. Size, reach and armor/protection are all massive factors in these sorts of fights, and dayne's skillset isn't suited to dealing with someone like gregor. If they were both unarmoured and equipped with nothing but swords then id probably agree that dayne wins, but we're assuming that both fighters are in their standard gear, in which case dayne will have his work cut out for him. If you disagree with what ive said, then by all means rebut the points ive made in a quote and ill get back to you, but don't just throw around base statements like that without trying to substantiate them

Your points are fair, but if you give him the sword of morning, he'll dance around the mountain and cut him up like butter. Dragonsteel would cut through standard armour pretty well imo.

Lmfao at the Armour being a factor.

Sword of morning is going to cut through Clegane like butter, he might as well wear no Armour.

Dayne dances around Clegane and stomps the shit out of him.

We don't know how agile or fleet footed dayne is, so you cant say that

It was for Selmy against Khraz, it was for Jorah against Qotho. In both instances the superior fighter ended up dead because they were not adequately protected and their opponent was.

Right, but he has a valyrian steel sword so that's a big game changer no? Especially factoring in the skill gap.

I've only seen the tv show and read stuff about Arthur.TV show Arthur beats Clegane easily.Heck even the writers said that they wanted to present Dayne as a superhuman. The guy could defend himself from 4 guys coming at him at the same time, parrying 2 handed swings with only a single arm where it both his left and right. He was simply unmatched.Books Dayne is regarded as the best swordsman ever and Gregor was very well alive at the time.

Dawn is as strong as Valyrian steel. Dayne with Dawn would slice the Mountain into bits with ease, the Mountain doesn't even have a chance since his armor won't protect him from a weapon equivalent to Valyrian steel.

Dayne low diff at most with Dawn. Without Dawn mid diff.

The Mountain wanking is getting out of hand. Oberyn wasn't even a top tier fighter compared to guys like Dayne, Selmy and even Jaime.
