Isn't flexibility one of the biggest skills taught to first years?

How the hell did she make a Chair?

Nene just ended up looking like a scrub like I predicted.

This has been handled really poorly, through and through.

Well to be fair, Nene's skills will work in a restaurant that only focuses on one thing.

Does anyone here know the restaurant Jiro's? It' a high end sushi place that only serves the basic sushi dishes but the entire course is like $300 because they only focus on those selection of sushi and refine simplicity to its best. (it also has 3 Michelin stars to it and I want to try it before the old man dies :P)

I think Nene wouldn't look so fodder if they at least acknowledged that aspect of her cooking.

In terms of making different flavours and impressing judges, Nene lost but I am glad that Souma's diner experience is acknowledged as an asset. He really is the key to changing an otherwise elitist mindset.

Also, Alice never stops being a cutie when she goes into chemistry lecture mode~

The problem isn't Nene losing, it's the fact that she doesn't know the properties of her main dish. The person who spent their life perfecting an ingredient doesn't know shit about it.

The fact that her sub-par dish made the judges wow is just another kick in the nuts, doesn't really get much worse.

Wait how does that equal Nene not knowing anything about Soba? If anything it was highlighted that she didn't take into account other people's personal taste all she thought about was making the "best" Soba dish which was the first flour.

My main gripe with this outcome is that the author should've done something earlier in the arc so we could know that the temperature of a kitchen could change the outcome of a dish.

If your whole cooking career is resting on a single ingredient, you ought to know everything there is about it, inside and out.
Not knowing something trivial as that, which is known to even people who don't specialise in soba, is just absurd.

She looked like a scrub. Its pathetic that a mid level elite ten cant take something this simple into account

Not really no. Nene's family's cuisine type is traditional japanese, their Soba dishes are just better than the other dishes they make.

Hayama noticed because of his strong sense of smell, Souma noticed by accident and he didn't even know that the kitchen was responsible, Alice knew it because it's her main study and she is from a cold country. Not to mention they are in a completely different environment than usual. When you realize it seems simple but beforehand it's not so easy to notice due to being so small.
The smallest of things can make a difference, I'm not surprised she didn't even take it into account.

It's basically like if you had a math problem and couldn't figure it out until someone points out one thing and then you get it very quickly.

it's more like memorizing how to do a specific math problem instead of understanding how to do the math problem

    Hm yeah that fits more.

How is that not an issue? Doesn't matter which way it's worded, Soba is her main dish, and she doesn't know all there is to it.

Leaving that aside, maybe she just isn't really up to the task. The judges, however, were baffled none the less, by a sub-par dish. I'd be fine with it if they had hidden motives, but they are supposed to be neutral.

    It was handled poorly.

    It doesn't work like that.
Should Takumi know every little thing about Italian Dishes? Should Kurokiba know everything about seafood?

No one said the dish was sub par, it's flavor was just inferior to Souma's.
