Probably XII, spent more time on that one than any other so far.
And it's getting a remake this year

Why even mention games you haven't played?
I did mention only for the story, I'm pretty well acquainted with them.

btw, big surprise to me you like Lightning

No mention for IV and VI? I've seen around they're held in high regard.

I played just those and none of the others, so I don't know how they compare to the other titles.

Ff8, 12 and crisis core. Bite me

IV is by far my favorite. Beat it around 30 times. Give the PSP version a go, man.

It's worth the time, and a perfect place to start.

    yeah, it's amazing.

The only issue I can think of is the scarce creativity in dungeon landscapes. Cave, cave, mountain, cave, mountain, cave, tower, tower, cave, cave, tower... It's a pretty limited roster

Started playing FF6 a few days ago so I've yet to rank it properly

There's a boss in FF6 that exists on one of the 4000+ tiles that create the World Map. Furthermore, it's INVISIBLE. So I had to tilt my Airship by a slight degree and hold A to propel my ship so it touches every single tile on the map and that takes a solid 10 minutes of holding A and nothing more.

On top of that, it also flees every few turns and has a high amount of HP with its location on the world map changing after every encounter/every time you enter or leave an area. It also starts the battle with Lvl 5 Death (I learnt that the hard way). After an hour + of finding and fighting this fucker, I finally get my hands on Bahamut.

Was it worth it? I'll never know.

    ANYWAY...

I'll rank my favourite FFs that I've played from best to worst.

VIII (though this is my number 1 bias favourite FF of all time even though IX was a better overall game)
IX (techinically number 1 to me in terms of best FF of all time but you know, bias)
    XV
    XIII-2
    IV
    V
    X
    XIII-3
    XIII
    X-2
    VII
III (I think this is the only FF game that I genuinely hate. It has such an awful job system it makes grinding and battling unpleasant to me though the music is great).

Though none of these games are perfect. They all have flaws though I believe IX has very few. The gaps between best to worst, save for III and VII, are relatively small as well.

Looking forward to I and II if they ever hit steam and XII Zodiac Age when it hits the PS4. I'm also hoping that VII Remake will change my opinion about VII. VII was my first main FF series game and I didn't enjoy it that much. I can't explain why but there was something lacking that kept me caring about the story or characters. I did like Cid a lot though. And I also love the theme for Cosmo Canyon.

As for recommendations, I do recommend starting with IV or V for the older classic era. I recommend VIII or IX for the PS era. Can't say much for PS2's era but XIII is quite fun it its own way and I think XIII-2 is more than worth it purely because of Caius Ballad. XV is a great start to understand what FF is all about. All the themes are there (despite the poorly told story in the second half of the game). XV is such a shame in the sense if they had a year or two more to make it, it could have been the perfect FF game.

Not a fun hunt for sure, but finding him must have been satisfying.

I never played XII before so I'm glad I'll finally have a shot at it.

I've played Tactics on the GBA and NDS and I really loved it. I hear it's based of XII's world too so it's making me more keen for it.

20 - 30 hours was dedicated to getting all of Gau's Rages.
I FUCKING HATE GETTING HIS RAGES.
There are 255 to get and the last one, Fiend Dragon, took more than 3 hours to get because RNG Jesus was not on my side.

Patiently waiting for FF1 and FF2 to hit steam now.

FF1 was pretty bad on my experience. Although maybe it's just that it's the one with the worst aging.

Watching Seasons of Sherlock really helps with the mindless mashing of A. Also, the in built triple speed boost and ability to get rid of the 30 second background camera panning at the start of each random encounter is really nifty.

One more episode before I finish Season 4 of Sherlock!
