"The game is currently being localized and tested."

Let's hope it follows the RPG style of the first two games faithfully.

Not really. It completely changed gameplay mechanics... So much so that it was a platformer with RPG elements. I didn't get the same expansive world or character depth in Super Paper Mario that I did in the other two games either. Finally, to add insult to injury, Count Bleck was a terrible villain with an Obito type of goal.

I actually loved Super Paper Mario, with Count Bleck, characters, world and everything. But it must be said it's been my first Paper Mario game, and after playing the N64 title I got how much difference there is. I haven't played SPM in a while and I wonder what would I think of it now. Sure I liked it a lot back in the day.

    Did you play Sticker Stars?

Never played a Paper Mario game before, but I'd be willing to give this a try.

Damn, you're really missing something that you would adore, imo.

No. It got pretty negative reviews from what I hear though, and Paper Mario fans hate it.

calling bullshit on this one, especially because of the release date.

    - - - Updated - - -

second citation is also a blatant lie since rogers claimed this title would get announced this year, not released.

That's what I heard as well. Hard even to consider this sorta handheld spinoff as part of the main saga

They clearly seem to hate their fans, what have we done to deserve such cruel punishment?

I would express my hatred toward the later entries myself, but I would just exhaust some of the points others have already made about Color Splash, as well as Sticker Star... Since they're both universally hated.

I sort of hate Super Paper Mario too though, if I'm being totally honest... Just in a different way. It's not THAT bad, but it was the first diversion the series took. I do see appeal for the game, since while it was a platformer, it still had some deep story telling elements to it. But Sticker Star took no inspiration at all for the first two games, and this just looks like Sticker Star 2.

The worst part about all this is, I was such a huge Paper Mario fan when I was younger. I loved the classic feel to Paper Mario, and I loved how Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door took everything about the original and made it better. So this video actually makes me somewhat emotional... Even though I was actually expecting this to some extent.

    R.I.P, Paper Mario.

They will never go back to what it used to be. They are going to keep innovating and people are going to continue to buy it as with all Nintendo games.

Let's hope the Switch Paper Mario becomes an RPG again. I'm tired of all this Sticker Star, Color Splash, Paper Jam nonsense.

    I believe Color Splash bombed.

I can see them retiring Paper Mario for a while if it bombed both critically and financially.

I don't think so. The first two Paper Mario games are held in high regard, and considering Nintendo's really stepping up their game since their poor performances in the Wii U era, I can actually see them going back to their roots.
