Gate: Jiei-tai Ka no Chi ni te, Kaku Tatakaeri

The military fantasy series begins when a gate appears in Tokyo's Ginza district sometime in the 21st century. From the gate pours out monsters, knights from middle-age Europe, and other fantasy-like beings, and they kill many of the citizens of Tokyo. This event is known as the Ginza Incident.

The government sends a small group of soldiers from the Japanese Self-Defense Forces (a replacement for Japan's military) to the alternate world beyond the gate. Led by otaku soldier Yōji, they find that the villages in the world are being attacked by a dragon. An elf girl who is a survivor from the dragon's rampage joins the group in their travels across the dangerous new world.

    lol otaku soldier.

Apart from the slick animation, nothing really grabs my attention. I'll give it a watch if I hear good things about it.

That's just it, you'll hear nothing but bad things about it.

Bad things not being ecchi, harem, dumb protag, no.

Bad things of a different kind.

And the fallout and rage that emanates from this anime when it comes out will be real. I'm predicting negative reviews across the board. This will be this year's School Days.

I kinda get what you're talking about now that I've watched it and read the manga. I've heard it's based on a LN but I haven't read that. Heard people on the kissmanga chapters' comment section talk about how disappointing the anime was.

Anime's okay but I prefer the manga mostly.

Don't listen to them. The manga author upped the gore and made the overall work gritty as compared to the original. If the anime is disappointing then all action anime without blood spewing out everywhere is disappointing.

It's also not a light novel. It's a novel. If it was a light novel originally there would be english translations by now.

No, no. I'm not disappointed by the gore or absence of it. If anything, I'm disappointed by the pace of the anime and some character designs. People were complaining about the lack of rape/sex or something, saying that we won't get to see those kinda scenes because of the anime's time slot.

    I see.

The anime is actually blazing fast, it just seems slow for the first two episodes, like nothing's happening. Things are picking up since Italica though and it's 24 episodes so I have no complaints about the pace.

The manga is not the source material.

Compared to the novel? I actually liked how they went into depth for the Ginza attack instead of dedicating a few pages to it in the manga. Dunno how the novel did it. The Diet part seemed a bit dragged out imo.

I know, you already said it was a novel. I just prefer most of the manga's designs over the anime's. Come to think of it, Pina having a rather deep voice doesn't fit her when I read the later parts of the story.

The Diet went on for a few more hours, you know it's not just one rep who did the questioning. Not everyone is on her side.

In the novel, the siege took 1 week. It was 3 days siege on the Imperial Palace with only the local police stopping 20,000 through the Gate before the JSDF mobilized. Itami coordinated the police for the whole week.

Seems like I now know the "fallout and rage".

Anyways, episode 10, all that paddling and the ending was rushed.

Just finished the season, really unnecessary stretching out imo, they could've fit more into that episode.

Not a bad anime thus far but the censorship and pace is disturbing.

    Chapter 52!

Well, that was resolved rather fast but at least Yao got some development. I don't want Crispy to touch this series though.

    Zorzal is a bishie now?

    Tyuule though.

Sherry looks like Silica, so much for originality A-1, they skipped the intro/build up to the Bessara family massacre too.

Opening better and the set up to the big event is starting.

Watched episode three, they drag unnecessary parts but skip vital ones. Poor Yanagida.
