I'll just bring the discussion here since I'm gonna be watching films and reviewing them in the other thread.

My favorite scenes in the movie visual wise are whenever Gosling is sitting down in the nightclub-themed place. It's just so amazing. The way it is shot and everything.

I actually like how it goes against the grain now that I think about it. It doesn't play it safe and like you said that's the point. It's like Refn's giving a big fuck you to the way society thinks. Drive was the antithesis in the sense of feel, but if you think about it people are going to like Drive more so maybe he's a regressive director lol. I'll have to check out his films after Drive but it is a bit odd.

Well Julian still looked pretty cool after the fight at least. But sheesh, Chang not getting at least a slight bruise...really upsets me. I guess it's supposed to.

Another similarity between OGF and Drive I noticed was how neither Driver or Julian got a happy ending. Is this a common theme throughout Refn's films? The tragic endings?

Lol I think you're definitely going overboard about him saying "fuck you to the way society thinks". Not sure how you came to that conclusion and that just makes him sound like a cheap rebel. I think he's just someone who makes whatever he wants to make, regardless of what people will think of it. He doesn't even cater to people who are fans of him. I also have no clue what you mean by Drive being an antithesis and of what exactly, as well as Refn being a regressive director. What?

Well I've only seen this, Drive, and Bronson. I don't think it's some sort of theme that the main characters don't get happy endings, I would say they get fitting endings.

Yeah maybe giving a fuck you to society was a bit overboard, but it definitely didn't go to what we expected in terms of plot direction and stuff. Guess I was just trying to say this film was unique but used quaint wording. :lmao I will watch Bronson soon and get back to you on that though.

I'm going to re-watch this film at some point in the future and I've also been meaning to re-watch Bronson, been a year since I saw it.

I really liked Fight Club, but if you consider that movie shit, I'd like to know more about what movies you do enjoy Mammal.

You're such a rebel sometimes, and I can't establish if you just like being nonconformist or have a genuinely different taste than most people.

Just keep an open mind and don't expect a Drive part 2 and you should like it for the most part. It's one of the most divisive films in recent times with a few calling it a masterpiece, and quite a lot of people calling it one of the worst ever (which to me makes absolutely no sense).

And there isn't a lot of violence but when it is violent it is REALLY violent so if you're uncomfortable with gore then watch out. There isn't a lot, it's short but it leaves an impact.

tbh the only part that was overly violent was when chang dealt with the guy who was calling the shots on his hit (outside of julians mother of course).

John Caradine in The Grapes of Wrath was the greatest performance ever captured on film.

I.don't know directors, I just know John Caradine made Henry Fonda loom like Tommy Wiseau
